THE SCIENCE OF COLOSTRUM™
Richard H. Cockrum, DVM, has been devoting countless hours to the science of colostrum for over 40 years. In her book "Immune System Control" author Beth M. Ley, PhD paid great tribute to Dr. Cockrum as the "Father of Colostrum", in recognition of his early pioneering work in this discipline. Immuno-Dynamics, Inc., was founded in 1979 by Dr. Cockrum to be a commercial purveyor and researcher of colostrum.
Today, colostrum production and the Science of Colostrum™ have matured into highly specialized and controlled processes. Immuno-Dynamics is the foremost producer of high quality colostrum and is the world's only commercial supplier of First Milking Bovine Colostrum®.
The Science of Colostrum™ is Vitally Important in:
• Where it comes from.
• How it is processed.
• What form of colostrum is best.
• Who should take colostrum.
• Why only First Milking Bovine Colostrum®.
The Science of Colostrum™ in Collection:
• Use of only the first single milking during 0-6 hours after parturition (birth).
• Collected only from North American USDA Grade A dairies.
• Frozen in individually labeled containers (for trace back) immediately after milking.
• Collected only from well managed herds, not "free range herds".
• Collected from animals not fed restricted proteins as set out in 21 CFR 589.2000 Mad Cow Disease Protection.
The Science of Colostrum™ in Processing:
• Advisable to use a modified pasteurization.
• Should maintain all original biological activity.
• Should be homogenized for uniformity.
• Should be dried for a precise time at an exact temperature.
• Balance of colostral components should not be distorted.
• Should not remove fat or other components.
The Science of Colostrum™ in First Single Milking:
• First Milking Bovine Colostrum® is defined as first single milking during 0-6 hours after parturition (birth).
• 80% of all colostral components are removed in first single milking.
• Mother begins reabsorbing colostral components immediately after parturition (birth).
• All subsequent milkings are by definition transitional milk and not colostrum.
• Only colostrum harvested from the first single milking retains the perfect colostrum balance designed and intended by nature.
